Most operators we talk to assume non-cyanide gold chemistry means a yield penalty. In practice, the modern formulations close most of that gap — the bigger differences show up in handling, effluent and permitting.

Where the chemistry differs

Cyanide leaching is fast and forgiving across a wide range of feedstocks. Non-cyanide systems are more selective, which is an advantage on mixed e-waste but means feed preparation matters more. Consistent particle size and a clean surface (free of coatings and oils) do more for yield than reagent dosing.

What changes in the effluent stream

  • No cyanide destruction step — you remove an entire treatment train.
  • Spent liquor is easier to precipitate and clarify.
  • Discharge testing simplifies, which shortens your compliance reporting.

The line changes that matter

Expect to revisit dosing control, dwell time and the precipitation step. Operators who treat the switch as a drop-in replacement are the ones who see a yield dip; operators who re-tune the line recover it within a few batches.
